BHK Hosts Open Application Events

BHK Child Development is accepting applications for the 2023–2024 program year during our Open Application Events on August 9^th.

BHK will hold informational events for interested families on August 9th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at three of our centers including L’Anse Child Development Center at 303 Baraga Avenue, Rod Liimatainen Center at 700 Park Ave in Houghton, and at our Centennial Center at 27001 No.4 Road in Calumet.

BHK provides educational and support services for expectant families and families with children ages birth – 5 years. “We’re excited to welcome children and their families to BHK for the upcoming school year,” said Cheryl Mills, Executive/Head Start Director. “Our application events will give families a chance to tour our classrooms and playgrounds, meet with teachers and staff, and ask questions about the services we offer.” Child activities, including a bounce house and a light meal will be available for families who attend.

Families will have a chance to complete an enrollment application and are encouraged to bring proof of age (child’s birth certificate or immunization record) and proof of income (2022 W2 or 1040 tax form) or BRIDGE card.

Head Start and Early Head Start programs are provided at no cost to eligible families. Eligibility is based on age, income, homelessness, foster/kinship care, and family risk factors. Programs can accept up to 10% of enrollment slots for children above income guidelines, so we encourage interested families to apply.

BHK has been providing services to children and families in the community since 1974. Each year, BHK provides services for more than five hundred children and families.
